Rugby Journey:
Ross picked up a rugby ball at 14 and never really put it down. After starting out at Scunthorpe RUFC, he made the move to Gainsborough in 2011 and has been part of the club’s fabric ever since.
Position & Playing Style:
A genuine lineout specialist, Ross is the bloke you rely on when you need the ball stolen clean out of the sky. He reads the set piece like a book and has a knack for disrupting opposition ball at the perfect moment. Loud, competitive, and impossible to ignore, he’s the voice you hear organising, encouraging, or — when required — making a point that absolutely will be heard.
Off the Field:
Away from the pitch, Ross works in planning while studying for a degree in supply chain management. When he’s not buried in logistics, he’s usually playing chess or diving into fantasy worlds like The Witcher, Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones.
Despite not looking like a powerlifter, he once had the party trick of breaking an apple in half with his bare hands. He’s also regularly compared to Will Ferrell or Buddy the Elf… and honestly, nobody’s arguing.
Club Contribution:
A true club man through and through. Ross serves as Junior Secretary, coaches the Minis, runs the club’s social media, and generally fills any role that needs doing. If there’s a job, he’s already halfway through it.
Favourite Rugby Memory:
Watching Wasps lift the Premiership trophy in 2007 — the moment that cemented his love for the game.
Rugby Heroes:
Growing up, Ross idolised Lawrence Dallaglio and Simon Shaw — two players who embodied the grit, leadership, and set‑piece dominance he now brings to Gainsborough.
Matchday Rituals:
Every finger gets electric tape. No exceptions. And the wrist straps? Always decorated with a smiley face — a small reminder to enjoy the chaos of game day.
