The Second XV v Lincoln 3rd XV

Gainsborough Seconds’ scrum strength shines despite Lincoln defeat 🏉

Gainsborough’s 2nd XV put in a committed and physical performance at home at Roses, despite a 12–31 defeat to Lincoln’s 3rd XV. The scoreline told only part of the story, with plenty of positives to take from the effort shown throughout the game.

A strong Lincoln side punished a few costly mistakes, but Gainsborough continued to compete, with the forwards delivering a particularly impressive afternoon’s work.

The pack dominated the scrum, giving George Hutton the platform to crash over for his try. Their sustained pressure also earned a penalty try after repeated scrum penalties, reward for a serious shift up front.

While the result went Lincoln’s way, Gainsborough’s physicality, commitment and strength at the set piece provided a foundation to build on. The forwards deserve huge credit for a performance that gave the Seconds plenty of encouragement.

Phil Hunter was named Man of the Match ⭐, rounding off an afternoon where the effort deserved recognition beyond the final score.
