Chadwick hat-trick helps Gainsborough to seven-try victory 🏉
Gainsborough’s 1st XV secured a 43–26 win over Southwell’s 2nd XV, with Daniel Chadwick scoring a hat-trick in a Man of the Match performance.
Gainsborough established a 19–7 lead by half-time, but Southwell narrowed the gap to 19–12 after the break to keep the contest alive.
Gainsborough responded with two further tries, one converted, to stretch their advantage to 31–12. Southwell continued to battle, however, and the second half became a test of Gainsborough’s resilience as yellow cards took their toll.
With 15 minutes remaining, Gainsborough were down to 13 men, and Southwell were on the front foot. A crucial try in the corner helped check Southwell’s momentum and gave Gainsborough some breathing room. They then dug in through the remainder of the spell with two players off, holding out until they returned to full strength.
Southwell kept the pressure on and brought the score to 36–26, leaving Gainsborough with a ten-point lead heading into the closing stages. A late Gainsborough try, followed by the conversion, settled the result at 43–26.
Daniel Chadwick’s three tries led the scoring, with Archie Hunter adding two and Jordy Holden and Kieron Smythe crossing once each. Harry Adlington kicked four conversions to complete the tally.
Seven tries, a determined defensive effort when down to 13, and a strong finish gave Gainsborough plenty to take from the victory, with Chadwick’s hat-trick earning him Man of the Match honours ⭐.
